Vol. Jim Lochrie
15th April 1956
6th December 1975

Volunteer Jim Lochrie was born on the 15th of April 1956. He lived with his family in Dromintee, a small rural community in South Armagh. He was educated at Dromintee Primary School and the Abbey Grammar School in Newry, where he completed his 0' Levels before cutting short his education to become a full time active service member with the 1st Battalion, South Armagh Brigade of the IRA.

Jim, who was affectionately known as Finn, was a warm and fun-loving individual who was well liked and respected by all who knew him. He had a love for Irish culture and sport and he played for his local club in Dromintee and was also selected for the Armagh minor panel.

He had a vision of unifying his country and understood the risks that needed to be taken in the fight for national liberation. He clearly understood the concepts of strategy and tactics and was a forward thinker - a rare quality during one of the most active periods of military activity.

He died close to his family home, along with his comrade Sean Campbell, while on active service on the 6th December 1975. His death was a tragic loss, not only to his family and friends but to the entire community of South Armagh.
